About

Dreaming Robots is a small, independent maker of fiber-arts tools designed, engineered, and supported by us. We only sell products we create, which means we know them inside and out and can build a strong community around them. The community (that’s you!) is the heart of everything we do.

We’re based in Lancaster, Massachusetts.

Who’s “We”?

“We” is mostly me, Maurice Ribble. I enjoy time with my family, CrossFit, and helping out part time as an EMT.  The rest of the time I’m in my workshop designing and refining tools for fiber lovers. Dreaming Robots is intentionally lean.  I’m the only full-time employee, with a handful of fantastic contractors who help with assembly, custom parts, shipping, and other specialized tasks. Staying small lets me keep prices low and quality high.

I graduated in 2001 with a degree in computer engineering and spent 15 years climbing the engineering ladder to principal engineer at Qualcomm. I started Dreaming Robots in 2009 as a side project, then went full-time in 2017, and I’ve loved every minute since.

What We Make

Most of our products launch on Kickstarter, which helps fund large initial batches and keep prices affordable. So far, over seventeen thousand backers have supported nine successful fiber-tool campaigns, including the EEW 4, EEW 5, EEW Mini, EEW Nano, EEW 6, EEW Yarn Counter, EEW Nano 2, EEW Cone Winder, and the EEW Fold.

Dreaming Robots began with eSpinners, evolving through years of improvements and innovations. The EEW Nano, in particular, became a breakthrough. An ultra-portable, affordable wheel that helped countless new spinners move from drop spindles to full spinning.

Today, I also create other fiber tools like yarn counters and cone winders, and I’m always working on new ideas where my engineering background can make someone’s fiber life easier, more fun, or more creative.
