EEW Cone Winder

The EEW Cone Winder automatically winds yarn evenly onto cones, with a guided drum that moves the yarn back and forth for consistent results.

Key Features

  • Perfect for breaking down large cones, transferring yarn from balls, skeins, or cakes onto cones, and preparing yarn for convenient storage or future use.
  • Adjustable tension system gives you full control over yarn tightness, making it ideal for both fine and bulky fibers.
  • Durable steel bearings on all rotating parts ensure smooth operation and long-lasting performance.

Troubleshooting

This is by design. If the motor attempts to turn the drum at low power but lacks sufficient torque, it will shut down to prevent damage. The system resets after detecting no spin attempts for three seconds.

To resume operation, set the speed dial to Off, wait three seconds, and then restart.

Our cones are designed specifically for the EEW Cone Winder, as they provide the best performance. However, the winder also works with other cardboard or plastic cones that have a sufficiently large hole at the narrow end. Using alternative cones requires 3D-printed replacements for the arm and cone holder.

A detailed video is available for guidance. For those who prefer to have the parts made for them, the 3D-printing page lists makers who can produce these components—Joel Hall is one current option for an easy, ready-to-use solution.

  1. Position the tensioner toward the side of the cone that is less full.
Note: The placement diagram is slightly offset due to the motor pulley’s position.
  2. Add rubber bands to the arms (as shown in the user manual) to increase cone pressure.
  3. For a new cone, manually pressing the arms down with your hand can also help it begin winding smoothly.
  4. Increase the tension slightly and adjust the tensioner so it sits a bit farther from the cone.

The set screw on the metal motor pulley can occasionally loosen. Use the small hex wrench from the parts bag to tighten the screw on the side of the pulley, as shown in the image. The screw is an M3 x 4 mm set screw. [See image]

By the nature of how the cone is turned on the drum it makes some noise. As the cone fills up some with yarn it will get a little quieter.

Battery Packs

The EEW Cone Winder comes with a wall power cord. It becomes completely portable when paired with a compatible battery pack (not included).

12V Battery Option
The TalentCell 12V 6000mAh provides over 8 hours of use and installs into the bottom case easily. It comes with the cable required to power the EEW Cone Winder. Other batteries with 12V output of 3A and a 2.5×5.5mm barrel connector should work.

International Power

The EEW Cone Winder comes with a Type A North American style power plug.  The power supply works with different voltages around the world so if you don’t have that type of plug you can either use a travel adapter or get a “c7 power cord.”

Replacement Parts

We’re committed to supporting our products long after they ship. For at least three years after a product launches, and often much longer. We continue to offer replacement parts for all commonly requested components. Many of these parts are standard off-the-shelf items. While we sell some parts directly, we also provide links to alternative suppliers so you have options. Our goal is to make servicing your tools as easy and flexible as possible.

If you need a part that isn’t listed, please contact us.
